LA Moms Blog: Want to embarrass your kids? All it takes is LOL

My latest post is up on the LA Moms Blog. I thought if any of you out there are looking for an easy way to embarrass your tweens or teens I'd help you out with some fresh ideas. After all, it gets kind of tiring parading around in front of their friends with your pants hiked up to your armpits, or licking your hand and then wiping their faces.

In case you haven’t heard, having your parents use chatspeak is the equivalent of seeing your dad dance the hula at your Sweet 16 party, or having your mom pick you up from school in her bathrobe. In other words, if you really want to embarrass the hell out of your teen or tween, try punctuating your sentence with ‘LOL’ or throwing in an 'OMG’ when you’re confronted with a long line at the grocery store. Chatspeak, the popular slang using acronyms found in chatrooms and texting, is apparently the exclusive domain of the under 20 set and any attempts at usage by parents or other old fogeys is, like, totally awful. 1. Ahahah, very funny post. Is true that teenagers have changed the way to comunicate, above all the SMS. Think about it: In Spain where I live, we only have 160 characters to write an SMS, so you must save words with acronyms like you write in the post. Is the same than in Twitter, where you only have 140. :-)
Regards from Spain. I wait your visit in my blog. I have put a google translator today to help the american people to read it if you want. Today I´ve a post about Obama, so maybe you´d like.

  4. That's funny! Thankfully my kids are still young enough that I'm "cool". Sadly, I can imagine this lasting only for another year or two at the most!

  5. The pleasure of making a tween cringe almost makes a gal want to procreate again (almost).

  6. If my Mom had done anything like that when I was young I would have been mortified. Luckily, my Mom wasn't "hip" to anything going on in popular culture. All I wanted at that age was for her to not do anything embarrassing and for God's sake, don't call attention to me.Now that I am older, I kinda understand the perverse enjoyment of embarassing your child. odd.
