Bring Me Back A Souvenir.

I'm going to miss it. For awhile there, I thought that I could pull off some sort of superhuman stunt and actually be able to attend. Maybe, just maybe, through the miracle of time travel or even some very effective street drugs I could possibly be in two places at once. Because while most of you will be at BlogHer, feeling the blogging love and knocking back vats of martinis and hugging each other, I'll be doing fifty loads of laundry and making my hundredth trip to Target to buy teeny bottles of shampoo and travel packs of Kleenex.

In four days I'll be getting on a plane for Tokyo. I had fantasies at one time of actually going to BlogHer and then trying to make it back in time to prepare to leave on an international trip with my husband, two children and nine other members of my family. Rigel had even made a cockamamie suggestion of me flying to San Jose and then he and the girls would meet me there and we would all fly off to Japan. But then I remembered it was me I was talking about, the person who takes three hours just to make a list to prepare for a trip to Costco and whose organizational skills are eclipsed by those of a ferret. Me, who just yesterday looked at her airline ticket and realized that HER NAME WAS WRONG and will now have to spend the better part of the day going to the travel agency to have her ticket and her railpass exchanged. Me, who once, on a trip to New York in a December blizzard realized that she had forgotten to pack any shoes other than the canvas espadrilles she was wearing on her feet.

So, all of you who are going, please take lots of pictures and post them frequently. I'll have my laptop with me and will try not to forget my power adaptor so I can actually plug it in. I'll try not to get too jealous when I see you all there, partying and connecting and relating and baring your breasts. And please, have a drink for me and pray I don't lose my passport.

  1. Some of are not invited. Now I must get on, the mice and small birds are going to help me clean out the cinders from the kitchen range before the ugly sisters get back.

  2. You know, I'm going to be in the same damn city on the same damn weekend as all those lovely ladies but I don't get to go. Damn people and their damn weddings that they want me to be a damn part of. Bitterly ungrateful much?

    YES, YES I AM!

(P.S. If you have any blogspot mojo, can you throw it my way? I recently moved locations but can't tell anyone that because blogspot is being fickle.)

  5. Tokyo will be much more fun! And I'm not just saying that because I'm not going to Blogher, either.

    Really. I'm serious.

    Have a great trip.

  6. I'm not going either and now I wish that I was. Next year...mark my words. I think it could be fun.

  7. Have a wonderful trip to Tokyo. I have to say that that sounds much more exciting than BlogHer--lucky you!

  8. You're going to Tokyo? OMG, if I tell my hubby that he will try to stuff himself in your suitcase. We want to go to Japan, me for the culture and the sights, him for the cars and races.
I'm not going to Blogher either.

  9. Tokyo sounds awesome. Hope you have a great time. I went to the BlogHer website yesterday and realized it is being held two blocks from my office building. Maybe instead of being such a loser I'll walk over there during lunch! If someone sends you pictures of the crazy woman trying to crash BlogHer... it's probably me!

  10. Yay your back! I've missed your posts!! Have a wonderful trip to Tokyo! You take lots of pics too!!!

  11. HAve Fun on your trip. I wish I could go to. Maybe we'll both get to go next year?

Your comment about your organizational skills and the feret made me laugh out loud...

  12. Hmm...BlogHer or Tokyo? That would be a tough choice! Maybe we should organize a conference for those of us who couldn't go?!

  13. So, you will totally be blogging from Tokyo, right? Right? Because I demand to see Sweatpants Mom posts from Japan. I DEMAND it, I say!

  14. The worst part is that you will make lists and revise them and pack and repack and you will STILL forget something desperately important like your glasses and you will be forced to wear your contacts constantly and will try unsuccessfully to read in bed at night with the book one inch from your face until you fling it across the room in a fit of violent temper.

    Or something.

    Have a great trip!

  16. I'm so jealous, wanting to be at BlogHer too. But Japan sounds pretty darn exciting too!

  17. I was just thinking of you and missing your posts. And now you post and say that you're going away on a trip?!? Unacceptable! I need more SPM posts! Please: have fun in Japan, be safe, and don't forget anything - especially about US. Your loyal readers. :)

  18. Have a fabulous time in Japan... I have to give you props for even considering a San Jose/Toyko flight plan!

  19. You are going to have a wonderful time despite your not being at the conference. I wish I were going as well. As a matter of fact, i don't even know if I'm a member of blog her. I don't know why I wouldn't be... I think I attempted to be, yet if I were I'd have a link on my page. So, I guess I'm not. I should rectify this.

  20. Enjoy your trip to Tokyo and be sure to take lots of pictures.

  21. I hope you all have a safe and fantastic trip and I'll look forward to hearing all about it when you return!

If it's any consolation, I didn't dress in drag and go to blogher, but rather stayed home and ended up inadvertently pissing off a monk while I was drunk on Retsina and Ouzo by calling a nun a bitch...yeah...nice, huh? I think that if I didn't have a really good seat in hell before, it's certain now.

  22. Have fun in Tokoyo!

  23. glad to see you writing again. You were missed. I didn't attend blogher either.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I too did not attend Blogher. Instead I flew out to New Jersey to house hunt... Again. In the 450 degree heat and the humidity. I'm a bit cranky and my real estate agent is borderline retarded. Sigh.
Go shopping for me in Japan would ya?

  25. I dedicate the entire Sasquatch experience to you.

  26. I would have thought about doing both like you, and then realized how insane it was, just like you did.

I've got lots of photos up on my Flickr stream.

Hope you're having a great time in Tokyo!!

  27. I can relate to the list-making, and the dozens of trips to Target. I compensated for Blogher by taking way too much of everything, and ended up leaving stuff behind.

I'd like you to know that while at Blogher, I brought up your name at lunch one day, but I forgot about Tokyo. We all hope you can come to Chicago next year!

  28. "Rigel had even made a cockamamie suggestion of me flying to San Jose and then he and the girls would meet me there and we would all fly off to Japan. "

He sounds like a terrific man (like my man is) to even suggest such a logistics plan, but just suggesting the possibility elevates him to super husband status. I'm leaving my man (honest, he encouraged me and what does that say...) and flying to the UK for a few weeks (in a couple of weeks).

Hope you're having a terrific time in Japan. Eat well and then blog about it, PLEASE.

  29. I didn't see this post before I left and I asked tons of people if you were there. Was soooo looking forward to jumping up and down and hugging you and probably scaring the holy hell out of you *sigh*

So put it on your calendar...next year, same week, in Chicago!!!

  30. Japan sounds way cooler than a blogging thing, I gotta say. I can't believe people actually get dressed and reveal their faces in public as bloggers!! :) I thought there was some sort of code about blogging mommies and anonymity...;)

  31. I didn't go either. Although I wanted too. Maybe next year. Have fun in Japan. Take tons of pictures.

  32. Tell me more! What is BlogHer? I am sooo uninformed and backwards. I'm a hic, a hillbilly, a numbnuts.

    How was Japan?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Your excuse for not attending Blogher is MUCH more valid and interesting than mine. While I was definitely baring my breasts, it wasn't for my blogging peers. Or any other person of interest... unless, of course, you're into gynocologist stories.

But speaking of stories, I look forward to yours about Japan!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oddly, when I was at BlogHer somebody told me you were there. At least that explains why you seemed to be avoiding me.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I've been away and I'm catching up on my fave blogs...but I do have a post about my trip to BlogHer if you're interested....sorry I didn't get to tell you until now... summer is so busy!

    ReplyDelete
  36. "the person who takes three hours just to make a list to prepare for a trip to Costco and whose organizational skills are eclipsed by those of a ferret" - Thank God! I am not alone.

I did not go to BlogHer, due to my own busy (but less far-flung) summer traveling. But I bared my breasts that weekend anyway, just out of solidarity.

  37. Do you have any idea how much I wanted to meet you there????
